TransLash Zine Vol. 7 Call for Submissions: Black Trans Artistic Legacies

TransLash Zine wants YOUR creativity! We’re seeking submissions from Black trans femmes for Vol. 7: Black Trans Artistic Legacies.

ABOUT VOL. 7: BLACK TRANS ARTISTIC LEGACIES

Black Trans Artistic Legacies, a collaboration with POC Zine Project, will be released digitally and in print to compliment TransLash Media’s Artistic Legacies doc series honoring Black Trans Femmes in the Arts Collective (BTFA).

Vol. 7 will feature art, writing, and photography from BTFA collective members AND any Black trans femme identified people worldwide. The content focus is “ARTS AS RESISTANCE”: any writing (poetry, fiction, nonfiction, etc.), art, and photography that fits this theme is welcome.

Black Trans Artistic Legacies will be released the first week of November 2023.

TRANSLASH ZINE SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

At TransLash Media, we pay our contributors based on the budget we have for each edition of TransLash Zine. This year, we are compensating contributors $250-600 per submission, depending on the scale & scope of the piece. This is what we’re looking for to include in Vol. 7:

  • 3-5 small interior illustrations of Black trans femmes in moments of joy, intimacy (platonic and romantic), and in forms of resistance ($600)
  • Poetry about arts as resistance from a Black trans femme lens ($250 each)
  • Original non-fiction writing about arts as resistance from a Black trans femme lens ($250-$350)
  • Photography by a Black trans femme (or featuring Black trans femmes) that celebrates Black trans femmes and arts as resistance ($350-600)
  • Digitized (or digital-first) works of art: mixed media/collages, portraits, etc. representing the experiences of Black trans femmes ($350-600)

Are you a Black trans femme individual & ready to submit to TransLash Zine? Complete this form by September 30, 2023, and if your pitch is a fit, Team TransLash will be in contact by October 5, 2023. We do accept submissions from folks who want to remain anonymous in the zine, but we still need an email address and invoice details to process compensation.
